Delaware

Delaware offers voter registration online, by mail, and in-person. Additionally, it has automatic voter registration. There is no election-day registration, and voters must be registered at least 24 days before an election. Delaware offers 10 days of early voting, but voters wishing to vote by mail must meet certain requirements. Unfortunately for independents, Delaware is a closed primary state. Independents wishing to participate in a party primary must change their partisan registration by the last Friday in May.

Yes, it can be. In some states, independent voters face barriers like closed primaries that exclude them unless they change their party registration each election. Others offer open primaries, allowing all voters to participate regardless of party. Some states make registration seamless with same-day options, while others require voters to plan weeks or even months ahead.

Navigating these challenges takes awareness and action—but that’s exactly why the Independent Center exists. We’re here to empower independent voters, break down barriers, and build a movement for real change. Join us and make your voice heard.
