Missouri

While Missouri has a party registration system, it has an open primary, allowing independents to choose in which primary they want to participate. Registering to vote online, in person, or via mail-in options is also convenient. One must register at least 27 days before an election to participate. There is no-excuse early voting (in-person absentee); however, to vote absentee by mail, one must meet certain requirements.

Yes, it can be. In some states, independent voters face barriers like closed primaries that exclude them unless they change their party registration each election. Others offer open primaries, allowing all voters to participate regardless of party. Some states make registration seamless with same-day options, while others require voters to plan weeks or even months ahead.

Navigating these challenges takes awareness and action—but that’s exactly why the Independent Center exists. We’re here to empower independent voters, break down barriers, and build a movement for real change. Join us and make your voice heard.
