1 Year Out from the Midterms: Solutions Over Partisanship

WASHINGTON, DC – It’s one year out from the midterms, and voters are more disillusioned than ever with both parties. Republicans and Democrats have drifted toward the extremes and away from the values and priorities of everyday Americans. Many voters have checked out entirely—tired of the outrage, dysfunction, and polarization. And the parties prefer it that way. It’s easier to rally their bases than to solve hard problems together.

Rather than focusing on solutions, both parties are focused on survival—redrawing district maps so candidates can pick their voters, canceling town halls to avoid accountability, and shutting down the government rather than compromising to seek the common good.

The dysfunction we see isn’t an accident. It’s the result of a political system that rewards loyalty to party over results.

“At the Independent Center, we believe Americans deserve leaders who are focused on solutions, not sides,” said Lura Forcum, President of the Independent Center. “When elected officials are rewarded for working together to solve problems rather than scoring political points, everyone benefits. Voters are tired of performative politics—they want effective and responsive government.”

Forcum continued, “Our message to American voters is simple: the system feels absurd and dehumanizing because it’s built to serve parties, not people. But by showing up, voicing their values, and expecting more from elected officials, voters can change that.”

Adam Brandon, Senior Advisor to the Independent Center Voice and Independent PAC, is working to recruit independent candidates in House races across the country. “Our goal is to elect enough independents in the House to deny both parties a majority,” Brandon said. “That would force cooperation—and make real problem-solving possible again.”

He continued, “Independent Center polling is clear: Americans are hungry for results. They want leaders who will roll up their sleeves, work across divides, and fix what’s broken. It’s time to put solutions over partisanship and restore a government that works for the American people.
