The Independent Perspective on President Trump’s First 100 Days

Washington, DC – As President Trump marks 100 days in office today, Independent Center president, Lura Forcum, gave her thoughts on what independent voters have seen from the Trump administration:

“100 days into an administration is a lot like the part of a date before you’ve ordered drinks. But sometimes your date is a dud, and you’re already wondering how to escape.

Independent voters swiped right on Donald Trump. Again. The stuff about inflation and affordability deeply resonated, but the other person doesn’t quite resemble their photos, so we’re contemplating whether to head to the restroom and never return or suddenly develop a family emergency that requires us to leave. Right now.

Donald Trump won in November because he won the independent vote by speaking to their two core issues: affordability and inflation. He couldn’t have made himself more clear: ‘Starting on day one, we will end inflation and make America affordable again.’ And in case anyone was confused by his message, he added, ‘When I win, I will immediately bring prices down.’

The Trump administration’s mandate was an economic one. However, after 100 days in office, President Trump has done little to address rising prices. In many ways, his tariff policies only drive prices even higher. As a result, his promises remain unfulfilled while he distracts the public with plans to purchase Greenland, make Canada the 51st state, and rename the Gulf of Mexico.

Independent voters are not interested in partisan distractions; they demand practical solutions to our affordability and inflation issues. They want Republicans and Democrats to work together to solve our nation’s problems.

If President Trump wants to turn his upside-down poll numbers around, he must address the issues on which he ran his campaign and deliver solutions the only way Washington, DC gets things done: through bipartisan governing rather than executive orders and chaotic public pronouncements.”
