Politicians Are Concerned About Power, Not Independent Voters

The issues facing everyday Americans are numerous. But these days, politicians only seem concerned about partisan games.

The federal government remains shut down. Millions of Americans are feeling the consequences—especially those relying on SNAP benefits to feed their families. While courts have forced the administration to release partial payments, the reality is grim: contingency funds are being drained, and full benefits are nowhere in sight.

Meanwhile, in Washington, Republicans are turning their frustration toward the filibuster, claiming they can't get anything done. But let’s be honest—if both parties came together, they could reach consensus on several key issues. The filibuster isn’t the problem. The problem is a political class more interested in power plays than problem-solving.

Take gerrymandering. Democrats and Republicans are locked in a nationwide battle to redraw congressional maps mid-decade, each trying to gain an edge before the 2026 elections. This is a blatant attempt to dilute voter influence. In California and Texas, redistricting has become a partisan arms race. This isn’t representation—it’s manipulation.

And while politicians fight over maps and Senate rules, Americans are struggling. Homeownership is out of reach for many, with prices up 60% since 2019 and average mortgage payments near $2,500 a month. Healthcare costs are climbing, with spending projected to hit $5.6 trillion this year. Grocery prices are still rising, with core inflation hovering around 3.1% and essentials like beef and coffee seeing double-digit increases.

Independent voters see through this. Our research shows they value authenticity, solutions, and shared principles—not empty labels or partisan games. They won’t flock to candidates who slap an “I” next to their name without earning it. They want leaders who prioritize people over power.

It’s time for Washington to listen. Not to party bosses or pollsters—but to the millions of Americans who just want a government that works. The only way politicians are going to listen is if their power base is threatened. And only independent voters have the numbers to do that.
