The One Big Beautiful Bill Act Passed.
Independent Voters Lost.
President Trump managed to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA) before his July 4th deadline.
Independent Center Senior Policy Advisor, Jason Pye, had this to say,
“Unfortunately for independent voters, Trump’s most crucial bloc, who swung for him in November precisely because of economic reasons, the One Big Beautiful Bill is a Big Beautiful Let Down.
After factoring in interest costs, the Congressional Budget Office found that the deficit impact of the Senate’s version of the bill would amount to nearly $4.1 trillion over ten years. The House version would have increased the deficit by $3 trillion.
Independent voters are united in opposing this kind of spending increase. They expected President Trump to reduce the debt and deficit. The OBBBA does the exact opposite.
However, more importantly, the OBBBA fails to address the issues driving the budget deficit. It doesn’t modernize Medicare and Social Security, both goals that can only be achieved by Republicans and Democrats working together. And it’ll exacerbate interest costs.
If President Trump and the Republican-controlled Congress keep America headed toward fiscal insolvency, independent voters will do what independents do best—hold the party in power accountable for unkept promises.”
