“The Rise of the Independents Will Be the Story of 2026.”

Watch The Independent Center’s Virtual Press Conference

Washington, DC – The Independent Center, a nonprofit building a home for America’s politically homeless, hosted a virtual press conference Thursday, May 15. The purpose of the briefing was to continue the conversation launched by The Washington Post’s feature on the work we are doing, “New independent movement wants to deny both parties a House majority.”

Post congressional correspondent Paul Kane provided readers with an overview of what we hope to accomplish next year. He wrote, “Rather than trying to run a third-party presidential campaign that would require billions of dollars and untold resources to get ballot access in all 50 states, they hope to win up to a handful of House races with centrist candidates who will not accept support from either major party.”

If you were unable to attend the briefing, you can watch the 30 minute recording here:

Polling and research specialist Brett Loyd analyzed voter data and the findings from our recent focus group in Michigan. Senior advisor Adam Brandon discussed the historic realignment we are witnessing, with the Baby Boom era giving way to politics driven by millennials and Gen Z. President Lura Forcum provided the cultural context in which this new political reality exists. All three took questions at the end.

Please get in touch with me if you’d like to interview Brett, Adam, or Lura.

The Independent Center is the go-to organization for information, research, and engagement with independent voters, who now make up the majority of the electorate. We represent those who are fed up with partisan politics and feel politically homeless. We believe the future is not red or blue; it’s fiscally responsible, socially inclusive, and free to choose the best options for ourselves, our families, and our communities.
